Carleton and Partners Celebrate Innovative Educational Website
Event:
Carleton University is celebrating the launch of Pathoftheelders.com, a ground-breaking educational resource to help Indigenous youths. The event is by invitation only, but media are invited to cover.
The project, which is called On the Path of the Elders, examines the initial and continuing impact of the signing of Treaty Nine (1905) by the Mushkegowuk Cree and Anishinaabe Ojibway peoples of northern Ontario through an innovative role playing game supported by historical analysis. The overall goal is to create a participatory learning experience for indigenous youth. An additional benefit of this project is an online archive of indigenous culture that can serve as a resource to students and researchers. This site will form a strong cultural bridge for users of all ages and cultures to gain a deeper respect and understanding of indigenous culture and history.
The Department of Canadian Heritage was the major funder of On The Path of the Elders. It was created in partnership with BlackCherry Digital Media, Archives Deschâtelets, the Doug Ellis Collection at Carleton University, Our Incredible World (Pinegrove Productions), Neh Naak Ko (Stan Louttit) and Wendy Campbell, Educational Consultant (Learning Methods Group).
